Book Review & Giveaway...Writers On The Edge

Writers On The Edge is a book written by authors regarding insight into addiction. I know when people think addiction they usually think of drugs and alcohol but almost anything can be an addiction. For myself, smoking was once an addition replaced by food. This is an awesome book about the fight people have within them to battle and overcome demons.

The cove is a little lack luster but please don't let that keep you from reading the book, you will be surprised for sure. Writers On The Edge is full of stories that will be sure to suck you in since we can all find something we can relate to or understand. One thing I loved most about this book is that you see things the way the are from the addicts point of view rather than someone putting things into words for the person suffering the addictions.

If you are not into long novels but prefer short stories, this is also a book for you. It's amazing how quickly I went through the book, not being able to put it down. This is an amazing book and anyone would benefit from reading these amazing stories told first hand by the people who lived them.

Guess What?   You can have your own copy!!!!!!

MANDATORY ENTRY: You must follow this blog and leave a comment

Yes, it's that simple! I will chose a winner on July 4th, Independence Day.

I did not receive compensation for my review, rather, a free copy of the book.

Book Review: Spark & Hustle by Tory Johnson

Let's face it, if you have a blog, you are essentially working for yourself in some capacity. When my children were much smaller, I often dreamed of running my own business so that I was able to still be there for my children, do something I loved and be able to bring in an income all at the same time, but how?

Spark & Hustle is a book written by a successful lady named Tory Johnson. Tory owns her own business called Women For Hire, a successful company that inspires women to pursue their dreams.

So let's get down to the nitty gritty of the book....This would not have been a book I would have picked up normally. The cover is very lack luster but the title is catchy for sure. What girl doesn't like something that sparkles? I do like the various examples of real life testimonials but they are some times hard to read and if you are looking for a book full of fluff to make you feel better but if you are looking for the details to begin an exciting adventure called small business and want to run it successfully, this is the book for you.

There are some great worksheets, tips and testimonials which are a huge deal for me. So if you are like me, and many others, check out Tory Johnson's book Spark & Hustle.

If you would like to order your own copy of Spark & Hustle head on over to Amazon. If you are interested in seeing Tory Johnson or her events, check out her website

Having One Of Those Days

My blog is never meant to offend anyone but at the end of the day it is my blog and only I will censor it. That being said....

I am having a bad day. It's not really one specific event that has happened but many spread out over months.

My Nanny passing has put a whole different spin on things for me in many ways. Her birthday was this week, which was bitter sweet for me.

Right now I am having a self crisis....see I love & hate Facebook. I love being able to be close with my family but I hate that it reminds me that we live so far away.

I also hate being so far away from my friends & God family in the Metroplex. I'm not trying to come off selfish or ungrateful but it's how I feel.

Since moving to Rice when I married
JT, I have made no friends. I have people from work, there are people at church but I have no friends. The people where we live are very clickish, like high school, and I don't fit in their cookie cutter, nor do I want to.

I feel like JT has his whole family there, a blessing & a curse, but I have no one except him & the kids. I've brought up moving closer to my sons when we move this fall but JT brings up support system and I understand his point bit I don't don't feel like he gets it at all.

Moving that way means I can still go to the same college, we are closer to my sons & his son, we are still not far from his family, closer to mine, closer to his job, closer to the friends we have in DFW & it makes it easier to do what our kids need instead of having to drive 45 minutes to an hour just to get somewhere.

Don't get me wrong: fire dept, ladies aux, girl scouts, etc but it's just one of those days I wish I was in the middle of
My family and/or friends

What Was Your Most Prized Possession As A Teenager?

Somehow I don't think many things change. I have a house full of teenagers and tweens and they couldn't live without the same thing I prized at their ages.

My children all have cell phones but back when I was a teenager, back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth (just ask my kids), we didn't have cell phones. When I turned 13 the BIO got me my own phone line and to make it better, I went to the dollar store and got myself one of those long phone cords that could go every where I went all over the house. Of course I wasn't too happy the first time I got in trouble because the BIO grounded me from the phone.

I got smart though, probably smarter than my parents wanted me to be. I started collecting phones that my relatives were replacing, I bought them from garage sales, if I found one on sale for cheap and I stashed them. I would wait until everyone went to sleep, pull out one of my hidden phones and be on the phone all night long.

The best part of this came when the BIO moved out of the house. She called me over and said she had something for me. When I got there, in the living room floor sat a bag full of phones. In every room, as they packed for their move, they found one of my hidden phones. Pretty funny if you ask me.

Why do you drink your tea or coffee the way that you do?

I am not much of a coffee drinker, just once in awhile. I am however, every Southern which means I drink sweet tea. I don't know why we drink it cold or sweet but we do. It's super refreshing on a hot day, goes with everything you eat and it's just not the same unless it has some sugar in it. I remember drinking sweet tea as far back as I can remember. I've been told that I've had sweet tea in my baby bottle. I can't imagine drinking it warm like they do in England. I can't imagine drinking it without sugar, even though I have had to do this before but I love Southern sweet tea and it's even better when you drink it from a Mason jar with a wedge of lemon.

What Is Your Favorite Romantic Movie?

My favorite romantic movie is The Notebook. The movie is based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks and to me is the most amazing love story of all times. It is kind of typical: girl is from an affluent family, boy is from the wrong side of the tracks, summer love and then the parents step in. Alright so Allie and Noah remind me so much of JT & myself. We dated when we was a senior and I was a junior. We were very serious about one another and then he decided to go in the Army. Fearing he would leave me, I broke it off with him. This is not exactly like Allie and Noah. Noah did go to the Army and he wrote Allie every single day but Allie was not getting these letters thanks to her meddling mother who was hiding the letters from Allie. Life happens and Noah redoes this amazing house while Allie is busy with social life, getting engaged to someone else and planning a wedding.

When Allie discovers Noah had redone the house, she has to go see for herself and they fall in love all over again. Of course you may think this is the end but no, this movie gets even better. See in the beginning of the movie, this old man is reading this story of Allie and Noah to this old lady. It isn't until half way through the movie your realize this is Noah reading their love story to Allie, his wife. Before she started losing her memory, she wrote the story down so that Noah could tell it to her in hopes she would remember. At the end of the movie, Noah slips into Allie's room to check on her and she knows just who he is. Noah climbs into bed with Allie and arm and arm they go to heaven together.....This does not do the story justice so you will need to watch it for yourself if you haven't.

Which Photographs Are Important To You?

To me this seemed like a silly journaling prompt when I first read it. How do you put a price on photographs or decide which photographs are more important than others? I guess maybe this has to do with my upbringing. Growing up my Nanny always had us in front of a camera. When she passed away in March, it took my dad and his siblings more than 3 hours just to go through pictures because there were so many. I inherited this trait from my Nanny. If you ask my children they will tell you I drive them crazy at times taking pictures but these are ways to capture memories. Every photograph I have ever taken is important to me, thus the reason they are in about 5 different places just in case my computer ever crashes. Photographs will remind you of good times you had throughout life, remind you of times not so great, make you remember things that you forgot and make you smile during the sad times. Every photograph I have ever taken is important and if I had to chose, I wouldn't be able to.

Have You Ever Had A Predictive Dream?

I can't honestly say that I have had a predictive dream. I have had a reoccuring dream that turned out to be true of my life. It's important to understand what was going on in my life at the time I first started having this dream. My fiance was now just my boyfriend, who I found out had been cheating on me most of the 2 years we had been together, he wasn't sure he wanted to be with me but didn't want to live together anymore, I had just started college for the first time ever, I was having issues with the ex-husband and my BIO (as always), my job sucked and the Texas Attorney General wanted to ask me some questions....yes, super stressful.

The dream started out with me being in what looked like a warehouse. Inside the warehouse was very little light and stairways that went all kinds of directions like Dr. Seuss books.

The stairs went all kinds of directions but led to no where. In the distance I could hear a person calling out for help but I could never manage to figure out how to get to them.

Back to real life: Things with Terence were still the same and he had moved out of the house but was still lying to me to keep me around. Things with college got going and became routine, my exhusband stopped tripping with me, the BIO was being nice (always a set up for a big fall) and the OAG said I was alright. In other words, some of my stressors had been taken out of the picture and then the dream changed.

Now in the dream I could see a door but I was still having trouble getting to the door and when I finally made it to the door I couldn't get the door open.

Back to real life: This was the time when I was gaining my strenghth to tell Terence that as much as I thought I loved him at the time, it was time for me to move on with my life because I deserved so much more than he was ever going to give me.

The day I told him this and my mind was made up for good, I was able to get the door open in my dream. You know who was on the other side asking for help? Myself.
