1. What do you enjoy doing the most with your spouse?

I like doing many things with JT but I think my favorite thing is to go out on our boat, in the middle of the lake and fish together. I know totally not romantic sounding but we have amazing conversations and in our lives of hustle and bustle all the time, it's nice to take a break.

2. How do you eat your taco? From the top or from the side?

I eat my taco from the side...someone eats it from the top?

3. Have you ever shut off the basement light and ran like a fool because you knew someone was down there and would get you?

Well I live in Texas and we don't really have basements but we do have cellars, which I had when I was a kid....scariest thing ever. Mainly I would run and jump on my bed if the lights were out because after watching too many movies where things under the bed get you or cut you (Thank you Pet Cemetary)...that was my fear

 

4. If you could change one thing about you what would it be and why?

My weight. I am really struggling with losing weight in a major way. I've tried so many things but it's just a challenge. I'm not doing it for something vain but because I am worried about my health.

5. What age do you think is appropriate to have the "bird and the bees" talk with your children?

 

I think it depends on the kid. I sat my oldest 4 down and found out what they knew already (from their friends), corrected what was wrong and had them watch an educational video.

I have been a terrible blogger but since school started things are crazier than ever. I have 2 brand new people in my kitchen so I've been training all week which put me behind in my paperwork but I am ever so grateful they have good attitudes!

I am behind on my paperwork...fun stuff y'all. We started school at the end of the month which means end of the month paperwork. Jill is in volleyball, Joel in football, Jonathan in football and Bryan in band PLUS we have the fire department AND college started on Monday for me....fun!

I am going to try very hard to be a better blogger! Have a good weekend y'all.

Back In The Saddle....I Mean School Again

School, actually work, started for me on Monday. I'll admit it was nice to see all the smiling faces back at work again, especially since this will really be my very last year to work at the school district.......thank you school, real school this time, not work school.

Monday was chaotic. Since the air is not turned on in the buildings that are not used, it made thing SO hot and we ended up cramped in the office of my boss. Tuesday was fun. We finished reviewing materials for a certification test, please let me pass it, and played Jeapordy....my team kicked butt!

I did walk into some mess in my kitchen though. Thanks to making friends with the custodians, my floors actually got cleaned but my groceries are not put away, my kitchen is a mess, my printer isn't working (which I need to do my job plus I need to print out check stubs so we can move into the house I've been talking about.

I've had some employee changes too. My Dynamic Personality from last year has been tranfered to another school. My Negative Nancy is no where to be found. I did get my back-up manager back this year and I got my Worker Bee. I have 2 new ladies arriving this morning who have never worked in food service before (that's alright I hadn't either until last year and look at me now). This still leaves my kitchen one short for sure, really two. We will see what happens.

On a sad note, one of the ladies that helped me make it through the end of last year will not be returning due to health issues. It makes me really sad and I will be going to see her in the rehabilitation center she is in. She had a massive stroke and is now paralized on one side of her body. My heart broke when I found this out. My custodian that I helped during the car accident last year will not be returning either. Her injuries were just too much and she is working on disability.

I also have a new Vice Principal this year. I won't lie, I'm not sad to see the old one go but the new one is a teacher that I had problems with last year. She was very nice yesterday so I am praying this is encouragement for how the year is going to be.

Our crazy school schedules have started. For my family, fall is a crazy, busy time of year. This is how my week has looked so far and what is left to come:

Monday: Meetings/Training 8-4

Tuesday: Meetings/Training/ Test 8-4

Fire Department Banquet 7-?

Wednesday: Work/ Meetings 6-230

JV Parent Football meeting 6pm

Thursday: Work/ Teacher Appreciation Breakfast 6-230

Pick up Schedules/ Meet the teacher 630

Friday: Work/Meetings 8-4

QUICKLY go to campus, pay my tuition for fall, get my books

Pick up Joel & Jonathan

Saturday: Take 5 of 6 kids back to school shopping

(ALL DAY LONG)

Sunday: Take boys back

Go to Sam's & Regular Grocery store

Get ready for the 1st day of school

If you think this was good, next week is even better and did I mention I start back to college on Monday?

5 Question Friday August 10th Edition

1. Thunder storms- love them or hate them?

I love them unless they involve no electricity (which seems to happen every single time it rains where we live) and unless it involves tornado (which has also happened...Beebs was out of school an entire week thanks to his brand new school being half demolished by a tornado)

2. Do your kids get back to school clothes

Yes, growing up neither JT or I got new clothes for school until we got old enough to work and buy them ourselves. We go to an outlet Vanity Fair store for Jill's under stuff and discounted name brand jeans and some shirts, we hit name brand stores and stock up on t-shirt and Polo style shirts when they are on sale or clearance, we hit BOGO sales, like Famous Footwear, for shoes and faithful Wal-mart and Target for other under items.

3. Do you golf? Do you watch it?

I do not golf nor do I watch it.....honestly, seems pretty boring to me.

4. Showers or baths? 

I mostly shower but I LOVE a great bath with amazing bath products, turn on some jazz or classical music, sip a glass of wine by candle light.....yep, you guessed it, this rarely happens.

5. What's the strangest meal you ever ate? 

My God parents are Puerto Rican, everything they feed me is weird for the 1st time.

It's Ok........

That I am totally done with school supplies but have yet to buy school clothes

That I would rather spend my money on blog conferences but chose to pay for braces for Beebs (again)

That my MIL and I are getting along more (thank you Jesus)

That we were suppose to be on school schedule this week but I have only been awake at 5am one morning

That I am hoping the principal at my school is going to be gone this year (at least that's the rumor)

That while driving I had a Jesus moment (I'm glad for these)

Texas Tuesdays

Welcome to another addition of Texas Tuesday!

This week we are talking about TEXAS food!

(Hey the State Fair is right around the corner)

One thing Texas is known for is food, maybe why me and so many others are overweight!

A staple of Texas is one drink in particular. We went to Dublin, TX last summer to visit the Dublin Dr. Pepper bottling plant and I'm glad we did since Dr Pepper took it away for Dublin. 

 If it' wasn't for my frequent kidney stones, I would drink Dr Pepper every day. 

Everyone in my family LOVES DP. Even when my Nanny was in hospice, she asked for a Texas staple, Dr. Pepper.

Another Texas staple is something I can't make to save my life, Pecan Pie.

Now make sure you say it right because it's not PEE CAN pie, 

It's PA CON pie. If you live in Texas it's essential you say this correctly.

Now I am a baker but you have to be a real Texan to make GOOD pecan pie and for me,

I just haven't found a recipe that lives up to my Nanny's pie.

Y'all know everything is bigger in Texas and in Amarillo, Texas, you can order a 72 oz. Steak......yes folks, 72 oz.

If you can manage to eat this Bad Boy and all the fixings, you get it FREE!

Just the thought of that much red meat makes me want to run for the hills.

Being that we are talking about BIG Texas Food, how about this bad boy:

Texas Toast is GIANT bread, great for grilled cheese sandwiches, oven bread, toast and you can even get Texas Toast instead of hamburger buns at WhatABurger, another Texas staple.

I've Been A Bad Blogger

I seriously want to apologize from the bottom of my heart for my lack of being involved with you guys and with my blog.  Right now we have a lot going on that is making it a little challenging to meet the goals I have set for my blog. Let me share:

1- Last year, in July, we moved in with my inlaws in order to get back on our feet (thank you unemployment). We have been depending on MIL's internet the entire time, which other than having to be satellite (thank you living in the sticks) and the fact many people using it (hello folks), has been working just fine until not BUT 2 weeks ago, the Internet said to heck with us and the router or modem (not all that techy) decided to call it quits. Keep reading as to why we aren't buying another.....

2- We are finally moving. We have found a house to rent in the town and area we want and it's still empty. We are seriously just praying right now that the house belongs to us and we can get into the house September 1st AND get DSL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3- It's back to school time and we have 5 children to get ready for back to school....lots of shopping and lots of school stuff everywhere

4-August is a month that is always busy for us with parties, last minute trips to use up birthday tickets,etc

5- My sister in law and her partner are at the house with my new twin nephews (Ok, those babies are so sweet and cute and they cure my baby fever so they get LOTS of attention from Aunt Joni)

So I am having to go to McDonald's and Starbucks (yes because it so hurts my feelings to go to Starbucks) and use their WiFi. Of course I have my Iphone but it's just not the same.

Back when I was little, we won't say how long ago that way, the bank gave out suckers, these suckers, to kids in the vehicles with anyone : parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles

That I called to make sure there were no issues with fall financial aid
